A proper summer breakfast.

A proper summer breakfast.

Buenos Dia June,
Summer is in full swing and i decided there could be no better way to indulge than in some homemade tacos. I came home and started by marinating the chicken in a simple lime, salt and cilantro juice. Then we threw in some Napalitos (cactus) and simmered in all the marinade with a little water to help break it down. At the same time I made some brown rice with a chili lime hint which popped flavor wise against the chicken! then put some Quaxa cheese and topped it off with a black bean salsa all in blue corn tortillas. MUI BIEN!
Let the truth be told this was pretty much one of my last cooked meals because I’ve decided to get it right get it tight and go back on my raw food diet - not all of us can be so modestly trim and slim like you June. Some of us don’t have the hips for an A-line dress with an apron over the top. Lucky bitch.
Soak up some sun!

Starting the Day Off Right

Good Morning June,

This week being the first of my rebirth into domestic-hood, I’ve noticed how pleasant my days are because I’m making more time to enjoy simplicities of life - cooking meals for myself/and roommate, bought myself a few new duds, and making my house more a home has all been really nice to get back in the swing of but something much simpler has given me an extra boost. BREAKFAST. I’ve made breakfast for the past 4 days and it’s made such a quiet difference - I get the day started with a proper meal, imagine that! Eggs are the quickest/easiest and I’ve been getting creative by using certain leftovers (which is a curse word in your household but now we’re eco-friendly and more practical? *laughs*) and making them into cute little dishes for the morning crave. Hopefully someday I’ll get to make breakfast for the future mister trophyhusband.

Off to enjoy this lovely afternoon outdoors, I need my glow!

Cheers,

Gregory

Dear June,

We got a little Martha on you this weekend - something that can only lead to gorgeous results and maybe a fork being thrown at an assistant. Lucky for me my roommate did nothing of the sort - just kidding Matthew!

This old drawer got our wheels turning and we thought it was finally time to put the knick-knacks my roommate is so prone to collecting to perfect use. We replanted an adorable mixture of little house plants Matthew got as an Easter gift from Nana and added some newly acquired friends. Mixing together some classic leather bound books, a few sculptures and a subtle back light this box came to life and has become a quiet yet rich statement piece in our chateau.

I know nothing can touch the decorative eye you have June, but a boy’s gotta try!

Dear June,
I’M BACK! I know I’ve failed my domestic responsibility and oath to husbandry preparations and feastitude perfecting and temporarily replaced it with take-out, processed junk and skipping of meals all together, but no more!
I’m obviously still single so there’s nothing to report in that department, but hopefully with the start of the summer season and the fuego I’m cooking up in the kitchen we might be able to wrangle a hot dog!
Tonight I kicked off my return with some baked Halibut filets in a simple fresh lemon marinade with s/p paired with a really simple sauceless potato salad - greek olive mixture, minced garlic, tomatoes, and light olive oil with s/p. This combination was perfectly light and balanced for the New York heat (although cooking did get a little steamy, but totally worth it)! On the side I made some steamed artichokes with my favorite lemon/garlic mustard dipping sauce that actually went REALLY well with the fish and acted almost as a tangy tarter.
After such a lovely weekend of sun, drinking and debauchery, with some good household cleaning with my roommate it was nice to enjoy a nice meal in our clean apartment, with our new gorgeous little planter box i won’t stop raving about.

It’s about time….to start cooking!

I’ve been single for, well, far too long. And the time has come to start cooking up a storm! Although work has been crazy busy and I’ve had little to no time to really cook, I have had time to spend with “Yoga to the People” boy and all I can say is all the flavor profiles are coming together for a nice little dish.

We’ve gone out and seen each other quite a bit now and each time just gets better and better. I must say though I’m going to have to bring some heavy hitting recipes to the table because my Shrimp Linguine’s going to be hard to top! Luckily I got a great recipe for Scallops with a cauliflower puree on deck, mushroom and pea risotto to boot in the works, poached eggs! up to bat and some devine cookies to seal the deal. Now that the opportunity has presented itself, I’m ready to put my cooking skills to the test and see if I can keep him coming back for more.

Don’t you worry, June and fellow readers, you’ll get pictures and more recaps to come.

Cheers!

I don't think you'll ever find a sustainable relationship because like your crust, you're very flakey.

Dear Future Husband
“If you don’t love yourself, how the hell is somebody going to love you?…” - Ru Paul
Like mama says I’ve been learning to take care of myself which all seems to be working in my favor. Work is better and more exciting than ever - for being 22 I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. I’m kind of smitten over “Yoga to the People” boy for many reasons but one of my favorite is his tendency to just call me out of the blue to say “hi.” I’ve also been working on this blog and taking my cooking to new levels and really refining my skills which has produced this little dish inspired by my friend Ashli. She told me about cooking eggs in marinara/tomato sauce and that girl unleashed the beast in my belly when I started putting this dish to the taste bud test! I simply put in the tomato sauce, cracked some eggs and added some seasonings and viola! Made some toast and my usual turkey bacon to go with. this dish, although will no doubt be a dish we’d share, was made simply for me and no one else.

Saturday’s Dinner a la Maison Chez Moi

Pardon me June if it’s rude to boast about your own cooking, but goddamn I nailed a scrumptious dish for “Yoga to the People” boy. He agreed to come to a little rendezvous in Brooklyn with me so I invited him over for a pre-party dinner which I can honestly say I was nervous to make. With only Indian and Mexican as my limitations, I scanned the house and went to the grocery store where the shrimp were calling my name. I knew I had a gorgeous white wine chilling in my refrigerator (plus I had also had a delectable mussel dish at Steak Frite this last week) so I knew where I wanted to go and I kept things simple - which is where I hit my stride.

When I got back I tidied up, (marinated the shrimp in garlic and parsley) showered up and went to work. Chopped some yellow onions. Turned on Beyonce. Minced some garlic, just after putting muh freak’um dress on. Slow simmered them and added the white wine and cooked linguine along with some sauteed mushrooms i did up earlier. Then I cooked the shrimp that were marinating and placed those on top of the linguine and sauce on the back burner until my guest arrived. He brought this smile that was to die for along with my favorite beer. I served a simple green salad and mozzarella croustinis to go with this aromatic and flavorful dish.

Afterwards we had the best dessert ever…….Tulenti milk chocolate gelato. Not only did this sensual dish’s aroma linger on, but the night out spent with “Yoga to the People” boy is still hitting high notes in my memory - and I’m not talking about the amazing PDA had before saying goodnight.

Sweet Dreams June,

Gregory
